Default Alarm Malfunction

Hey Everyone,
The stock alarm on my 98 F150 started going off some times when I use the key to unlock it. I haven't found a rhyme, reason, or pattern to it. The fob hasn't been used in several years and the key I've been using is just a solid piece of metal, no chips, and has worked fine for those several years. Turning the ignition to 'on' stops the alarm and I've had no trouble starting the engine.

I've done some searching but haven't come up with a solution yet. Any idea what may be the problem? Thanks for any help y'all can provide.

Post a photo of your FOB please. That will help us know what we are dealing with.

I know some vehicles you can arm the alarm by holding the key in the lock position on the door for a second.

I think that the Expedition got the factory alarm in 98, but the F150 wasn't until 99. I am wondering if he's got a dealer installed alarm, which was probably made by Code Alarm.

We'll know by seeing the remote though.

I was a little curious about if it was too old to have something like that. Were those the square ones? My dad bought a 97 new and I remember him having a square fob.

I think I might have one in the garage from my old Ranger... I'll see if I can go find it and post a pic.

If it has a factory alarm/keyless entry, the remote will look like this.

My 97 has a factory alarm.
Three button remote.
Listed on window sticker.
Mine does same as OP. I just use the remote all the time.
I can't turn off alarm with Forscan as I don't know which parameter to change.

The original fob that came with the 98 had the word CODE on them....had a strange looking small battery. The battery never gave out (great little battery), but the fob did, both of them eventually....2 button. I couldn't find replacements like that, went with the same type user white89gt posted which worked flawlessly.
