Default on again off again tach

In the past 6 months or so, my tach will not work at all for the duration of that drive. It sometimes will go for a day or so, b4 it starts working perfectly, and then stay working for days or weeks just fine until it gets "lazy" again.

Is this a sign the small motor in my cluster is starting to die, or should I look for a legit short elsewhere?

If it is going out, I have another instrument cluster I bought from a salvage yard sometime back. Just for reference.

You would have to get it recoded for your ignition. Just an option if needed.

Thanks for your offer, its certainly appreciated, but i have easy access to the parts. I just wanted to see if this issue is normal or what. Id hate to replace the tach motor, and find out that its a wire in my harness.

However, i wasnt aware that the 97s needed to program a new cluster. Would that be necessary if i just replaced the needle motor?

Sorry didn't know you had a 97. I don't think so. You should be good I'd say.

Looking at a cluster from 97-98, I don't think you can swap out the tach motor or any singular piece. It is a molded board with everything attached. I believe, since you have to remove it as one piece, that it has to be replaced the same way. If you have another cluster you can take the circuit board from good. If not, PM me and I can send one.
