Question Aftermarket Remote Start Problems

So I had a Clifford remote start and keyless entry installed so I can warm my truck up before work the lazy way. Only problem Im having is that when it gets to the teens and single digits outside it wont stay running. It will start and run for about 5 seconds before it shuts back off. It will do it even if the truck is at operating temp. Once the ambient temp gets above like 22/23 it works fine. The only reason i had it installed was to warm the car up in cold temps, but if its not working in the single digits and teens whats the point? Lol any ideas would help if anyone has experience with aftermarket units.

Does it die.....or shut down?

No experience with that unit.

Remote start has nothing to do with dieing
Shutdown is done after pre-programmed time once running too.

During start it looks for indication its running, to stop cranking. Either tach, or battery voltage.
A bad connection or weak battery might possibly cause it to not stay running. Just speculation. Both of these could be temp dependant. Reading your info about unit might give some clues to the 5 sec and shutting down

I would go back to the installer. There is either an issue with the install or the unit itself. I have had a Viper alarm and remote start in mine for close to 9 years with zero issues.

Yep battery or connections. A bad connection worsens the colder it gets.

The starter is not seeing the engine running. How it detects it could be several ways. Voltage, tach, alternator. They can be affected by weather. If it's a pretty old starter, my guess is it's tach.

The tach wire is ran to one of the ignition coils. It dies after it runs for 5 seconds. Im guessing possible weak battery because it is sill doing it after a reprogram and new tach line. Ill have to have it tested soon
