Question aftermarket automatic transmission with standalone controller?

Hello,

I have a 1997 4.2l 2wd F-150. It was built with an automatic transmission, but the previous owner replaced it with a manual one. I don't know which brand.

The problem is that the clutch has been re-done three times and never feels like "original", also, it only has 4 speeds and reverse.

So I'm wondering, is it possible to switch back to an aftermarket automatic transmission and use an stand alone controller for it.

Thanks!

that's always possible but it can get rather expensive. The stand alone controller has to be programmed for your vehicle application. Look up TCI transmissions. And look around on jegs. Ill help any way that I can. What is your estimated budget? Jw

I don't have a pre-set budget now. I'm actually wondering how much that would cost.
