You can powerwash the engine bay, just make you dont get too close with the powerwasher. Keep the tip at least 2-3 feet away from your engine compartment. At the dealership I work at the recon guys power wash the s**t out the engine compartments, I work with them a lot and we have yet to mess up an engine by powerwashing it. The only thing you should really be concerned about is if you have wiring for offroad lights or accessories that could be shorted or messed up. When I bought my truck over the summer we powerwashed the crap out of the engine compartment and it looked great and worked great.

If you are worried about the pressure from a powerwasher just use a hose to get the mud off, unless it is really caked on there.

I have power washed my motor numerous times just like big red said stay back about 2-3 feet and I try to not concentrate too much around the computer areas. I for one would not use a hose just because thats too much water being put down in areas if that makes any sense. If you have an open intake filter its usually good to cover it with a plastic bag or something use tape to tape the end to seal it up or something.

I used to work in recon at a dealership and we used to keep the engine running while we power washed.
