Default AC Stinks

When I first turn on my AC and the truck has been sitting for a while the air that comes out smells like a wet dog. It goes away after a couple of minutes however the wife does not enjoy the smell and I must admit it is getting pretty old. So my question is have any of you experienced this? If so what did you do to fix it? Is there an AC filter that I dont know about? I have a 2003 F150 Supercrew.

is it your original truck? If the last owner smoked with the AC on it could smell pretty terrible

There are a few products out there you can use to disinfect the evaporator. Most kits have you drill a small hole in the heater box and pump in fluid then drains out and should be good. One thing I always do on my own vehicles is; before I turn off the car I will turn off the a/c and turn the vents on high to dry the evaporator out. The condensation that accumulates on the evaporator will start to mold and algae if it never drys out. I would try shutting it off and letting the fan dry it out, if that doesn't help, it will need to be cleaned!

Chances are your drain is simply plugged up.

Check for plugged drain hose for evap box. This is done from under the truck. If water can't drain it will grow bacteria causing an odour. Once dry the HVAC air intake can be sprayed with a disifectant ( there are products especially for this).
