Default AC pump question

It's 40 outside and the clutch on my ac pump keeps cycling on and off. I have the heat on. Why is it doing this? Can't be good for it.

I had the same thing happen with my old Mustang and Ranger. In the winter I just unplugged the compressor then plugged it back in once the warmer weather came again. I never had a problem doing it that way and seemed to have better heat as well.

Thats the way they set the AC up. The only settings that the AC doesn't cycle is when it set on floor or panel. I was wondering the same thing when I first got mine. Found the info in my factory manual.

Keeps the the seals from drying out.when they dry out they leak. The oil also Will hold refrigerant. When that happens the compressor has work much harder when it starts. If the oil is moved around the refrigerant has to boil off out of the oil.
