Default 99 door lock problems

I am having a problem replacing the lock cylinders and the new ones I ordered don't work right nor does the one previously installed. the little piece on the back of the cylinder that connects to the linkage is angled the wrong direction, no matter what combination I try it will not face the right direction and hits the door handle when it rotates upward. both cylinders are the same in the new set and so are the connectors. I can only assume the owner before me tried to do the same thing and just installed it incorrectly since I was told it needed an actuator when it actually just wont turn. the driver door works fine but there is no way to make the passenger side work. all the parts i see to order are exactly the same. the only thing I can think to do is bend it so it will miss the inside of the handle.

I have watched some videos about it but when they pull the handle out of the door the part is facing the right direction,

You are right
I think you got some wrong parts
The two door lock cylinders should have symmetrically opposite levers
I'd hit a junkyard for a lever that goes the right direction and then you can verify what I said about them being mirror opposites
