well I did get better gas mileage from going to the ethanol free, currently it's about 8% more than 87 but I got about 16% better economy, probably not much of a power gain but economic gain is great...

I ran 93 (my "premium" around here... 87, 91, 93) in my truck for a while and didn't really find any performance gains in my 5.4 after about two months. MPG seemed to increase but very minimally, so much so that it was counterproductive to even bother with the extra $. I changed stations from my former place of employment (Wawa, if you're from my area) to Shell and noticed an MPG and overall driveability improvement. Perhaps from whatever Shell puts in their gas. It's a few cents more expensive, but nothing like the premium I was putting in, and it seems to be worth the money.

As for brake standing... I can do that on any octane. One wheel squeals, baby. But I don't do it often as my tires are pretty much brand new as well.

Nugget, do you have a limited-slip rear end? I have a 2000 4.6L with 3.55 gears and a limited-slip rear end. I can't get my tires to spin unless they're on gravel or if it's raining. However, if I really hit the gas on dry pavement I can feel one wheel slip and the other wheel catching and stopping a burnout.

As for octane making a difference. Im not even going go there. Too many wars on that already lol.

All-in-all I think your trucks fine. As for gas milage, I get around 15.6 mpg highway and 11-12 city.

The 5.4 is a world of a difference compared to the 4.6 and the 3:73's help too. I would think it would be much easier to brake torque it.

Why you ask?
1. I just bought new tires and have good brakes
2. I don't run 104 octane race gas...only because I'm 'too cheap' says Jr a few posts up (softcorefx4)
3. It puts strain on a lot of components that i don't want to shorten their life
4. I'm not a 16 year old
5. My truck does everything I need it to power wise

Have you tried putting it in neutral, revving to 4-5k then dropping into drive quickly? You might get a chirp out of that. You will feel tha powa then!!
Softcorefx4 huh? Your a bright one aren't you dumbass. Your a real man when you can talk **** over a computer. Right tackle.

When I got my 03 5.4 supercrew. it wouldn't even squeal them the guy before me ran 87 I put 91 in it since I've owned it.
Our trucks call for low octane fuel and I've ran tanks of both and neither make a difference. Ill burn rubber with 33" all terrains from a stop with no braking

The reason for higher octane fuel is for a higher compression engine, it will allow more compression more before exploding. Lower octane is for lower compression engines. Says my mechanic.

Yes there is. I'll tell you what, it's not for a 10 year old stock truck tuned for 87...
