Default 97 Power Window & Other Electrical Problems

Bought a 97 XLT Supercab a couple weeks ago with 100k miles. The power windows worked fine the day that I test drove the truck and also on the drive home from buying it. After I got home they stopped working completely.

When I push the window switches, the dome light turns on. If I hold the switch the dome light stays on until I let go of the switch. Also when the doors of the truck are open it is normal for about 10 seconds then I hear a fast clicking sound coming from the dash and the dome light starts flashing. If I push the window switch while this happens then the light stays on.

I took a video of this and will upload and post it tonight.

I checked the fuses and they are all good. I searched online for hours and thought that the issue might be the ground wire that is under the passenger side kick panel (ground 200). I replaced that one and the one on the drivers side as well and it didn't fix the problem.

I was really happy to get this truck but this is so annoying that I just want to get this fixed so I can sell it and upgrade to a newer 04-15 F150.

Anyone have any ideas of what could be causing these issues?

Here is what the previous owner said about the windows:

"As far as the windows, I only ever had an issue with the driver's side. If you look at the repair paperwork I gave you, look at the one from George's Garage (shop in New Castle that specializes in automotive electrical) for the date and work. They diagnosed the problem as the power control module (PCM), they said they checked the switch at that time and it was not the problem. They replaced it with a new PCM as they were unable to locate a properly working used one. The only other electrical work they did (at the same time) was replacing the power lead from the head unit to the CD changer in the backseat as it had a short and was not working. "

Default door windows

Not sure about the door windows but I recommend you clean every ground connection you can find, chassis to frame included. It solved some problems for me and now I make it an annual service.

I'm wondering what the PCM- Powertrain Control Module, that operates the engine systems, has to to with the interior features such as power windows.

I'd have to believe that the previous owner was referencing the GEM- Generic Electronic Module, which runs pretty much everything besides the engine & transmission.

This little "GEM" is attached to the back of the interior fuse panel, under the dash.

These trucks are known to have leaky windshields (and rear windows.) The water runs down behind the dash and enters the GEM, causing allot of problems like this.

If the previous owner did have the GEM replaced before, and the leaky windshield has not been fixed, it was just a matter of time before the problem happened again.

Here's another thread about it: https://www.f150forum.com/f12/leaky-...m-twist-98192/

Hope this gives some insight
