Default 97 f150 tailgate?

I want to replace the tailgate in my 97 scab w/6.5' bed. Are all 1997-2003 tailgates for f150s interchangeable?
Thanks,
Charlie

as long as the bed is the same yes, also f250/350 tailgates are the same, if it looks like your tailgate it will fit. Even a newer SD tailgate with a step will fit after swapping one of the hangers.

Unless it's a crew cab ( supercrew ) or a step side ( flareside ) the tailgates are narrower.

Dang that looks great. I usually don't like the regular cab and extended cabs because the tail lights, tail gate and bumper look weird to me. My only gripe if I were to do something like that would be the super duty lettering. If have to do what the mustang guys do to cobra bumpers and take it and get the lettering filled with body filler then paint over it. But that's just a personal thing. Otherwise that's the best looking reg/extended cab I've seen in my opinion

that much body filler wouldn't cause issues? After a year or so I imagine you'd start to see some shrinking issues

just throwing this out there. But I think even the dodge ram tail gate fit the ford too. A buddy of mine told me he did it ... to his ram... F*#$ing goof. I told him "you don't give grandma a boob job, don't put ford parts on a dodge."

If it's done correctly and professionally, it would last longer than a year. The mustang guys do it when they want to buy a cobra bumper and don't actually own a cobra. Here's some pictures of a mustang where the bumper was done correctly. This was well over a year ago if not more than two years ago and it still looks flawless.

Sorry for thread jacking!

it comes through eventually, all of those guys have had it shrink after a few years. Only one I've seen not shrink was done with plastic filler, the body filler shrinks after a few years.
