97 F150 and adding keypad for entry
Does anyone know if a door keypad can be added to the 97 F150?
The truck has a RAP module with a code. The truck has remote keyless entry.
It does not have any of the wires in the door nor does the wiring diagrams show the wiring included for any level for 97.
Has anyone ever tried this or will I need to just experiment?
Does anyone know what pins are needed for connector C256 or C257?
Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

It's certainly not wired for it. It probably could be added, but I decided on my 98 to just pass on doing it. I felt for the effort vs reward, it just wasn't worth the time and energy. I still have a spare F150 and spare Expy handles and pads. 99 and up XLT and up, no problem.
I keep a spare key in my wallet and still have locked myself out. I left my wallet in a jacket pocket in the truck when I went on a hike. Then after I found I couldn't get in the truck I had to hike out a couple miles to where I could get phone service to call AAA..
Wanna sell a keypad door handle? I'm going to try it. I have a wiring diagram for later trucks with keypad. I got plenty of extra flexible 6 pr encoder cable.
I would just need the pins for the RAP module.

Well, I went to the junkyard this morning and got a door handle with keypad, connectors, some harness for the needed pins, etc.
I hooked it all up in the driver floorboard and guess what.... It ain't that easy. It don't work using a later F150 pinout for wiring and the expedition one has the same for keypad wiring.
I did a switch test on the RAP and it never signaled the door switch pins.
Checked a few more pins (picked randomly as it would check 5 wires) and none were signaled.
I assume the software does not support the keypad.
I will now check to see if I can use a newer rap with changed pinouts.
Glad I tested before I tore the door apart.
I spent more on paint for the door handle that I did on all the parts.
I now have a (useless to me), beautifully refinished, Pacific Green, door handle with a tested working keypad.

I ain't give up yet.
This is the type of stuff that keeps the boring away.
My biggest concern is that a more modern RAP will need PATS hardware.
