Bottom line is to not put anything where the oil is. Stick it to the block if anything

No matter where you put it. It would be wise to pull it off every morning. Not worth it imo.

If you are going to buy one, just buy the big one, and only plug it in about an hour before you get ready to leave. It doesn't need any more time than that to take the edge of the cold off your engine. We only turn on freeze plug heaters at about 4-5 am, if we are going to go to work at 6-630. No reason to pay the electric co for something that isn't necessary. Good luck with your choice.
