Default 5MOD, is it reliable or?

Hi everyone, I was wondering if any of y’all would recommend this transmission… 5MOD according to Wikipedia, I’ve seen a post or two on here bashing on these transmissions. I’ve never owned a manual F-150, so I wouldn’t know if these transmissions are good or not. I do know the 4R70W autos are relatively OK in reliability, and have never let me down (although the 4R70E trans in my 11th gen has let me down &#128542

I’m looking for another truck soon and some trucks on CL or Offerup seem to look good condition but they’re manual. I don’t mind manual, but do mind having it in the shop for a major problem you know?

Anyways sorry for rambling, just would mainly like to know if these transmissions seem to be in the shop often. Thanks in advance

Depends on engine and how you intend to use it but they seem to be solid. There's a lot out there if you use the right combination of letters and numbers. M5OD, M5R2.

The two biggest flaws are the rubber plugs on the back side of the shifter. Those need to be pulled out and the holes filled with silicone, or have freeze plugs installed in them.

Also, the shift forks are weak.... no power shifting.
