Default 5.6 to 6.6 ft bed conversion

Hi everybody , I have a 2001 F150 Supercrew which I picked up cheap but my only dislike is the 5.6 ft bed .
My question is can I modify it to fit the 6.6 bed and can it be done without splicing the frame . Simply pushing the rear dif back 12 in adding 12 in to the rear . I know it would require a new drive shaft, extend brake lines ,a junk yard bed , Misc wiring and a weekend or two of labor . But It would be the way i think Ford should have made it plus it would just look awesome . Has anyone done this before ? Pros or cons ? Suggestions ?

You will have to cut and reweld the frame. And it won't look right with the longer bed.

I have only seen it done by splicing the from at the front rail near the gas tank. I personally would never cut a frame and attempt to weld it back together.

You could stretch it but it doesn't look right the proportion is all off. Super crews have the perfect hood:bed:cab ratio. You'll get used to the smaller bed and learn to be creative. You can get a bed extender too. But what you sacrifice in bed space you gain in dry interior space.

Someone on here a while back replaced the rear half of the frame due to rust. There are large rivets holding the back half on. Maybe if you can find the back half of a long bed.. no clue if they would fit together or not.

I have carried 16' 2x6s in the bed of my supercrew with the tailgate down and the bed extender out.
