I've got the 2v 5.4 4x4 with a 3.55 rear end. My buddy has a 2005 4.6 4x4 with a 3.73 rear end. My truck feels a lot quicker than his. I am going to research the numbers, it seems the 4.6 is a bit underpowered.

Your best bet is to stick with the 4.6 just put a couple cams in it stick a tuner on it and you'll get more power than the 5.4 plus some 4.6 have a different bolt patern on the trans bell housing

A set of cams is over $800. I bought my 5.4 for $600. Also new camshafts are not going to fix my no compression problem. In my case I think moving to the 5.4 was a much better decision.

I cant say I agree with your logic on that one. You can get a 5.4 shorblock for next to nothing. Cams alone are going to run you 600 bucks, if you get a decent aggressive grind, but then you lose all things good about the truck in terms of where your power comes on at.

Your going to get about 40ftlbs of torque from a 5.4 swap, which for the 200 bucks or so you pay for the shortblock is well worth it, if you do it yourself. Its not a difficult swap, everything transfers over, you just need the intake adapter if you dont use a 5.4 intake. Iv never seen anyone complain about a 5.4 not fitting there car if they had a 4.6 before hand either. Its been a direct swap for everyone i know that has personally done it.

If you just want horsepower, well you picked the wrong platform IMO, but if your looking for more usable power for pulling, torque is the answer.

I already have a new complete engine, plus yours should be a 3 valve.

Just my thoughts hear but It's cheaper and easier to put in another 4.6 (if your looking for more power tune it up and add a super charger)
Ive seen a 2000 2wd with a 4.6 put out 580hp with no internal mods just a blower,tuner,long headers,ext
