4x4 wont engage

4x4 wont engage
can somone help?
i own a 97 ford f150 4.8 L. my 4x4 doesen't seem to be engaging but the light on the dash comes on. i got stuck on glare ice last night throught it in 4x and before i even hit the gas my back left tire started spinning. It seemed all the power was going to that one wheel.Even when i would back up into the garage to get over the little hill my back left would spin on the cement. earlier in the week i felt like my truck lost alot of power it would rev to 3000 before i was at 30 km/h and i wasent even hammering on the gas. and would shake at 80km/h. what the hell is wrong with my truck and are these two things related?
