4x4 problem
Hi Everyone,
I finally completed the swap of the engine and it purrs like a very happy kitten. Turns out I did cause the problem with the starter not engaging the ring gear properly. After having it checked out and re-installing it, it fired right up when I turned the key and has been perfect every time.
Now, my next problem: Right from the start the transfer case linkage was bound up solid. I could move it to the left, but absolutely would not move to the rear to go from 2WD to 4WD High or beyond. I removed the boot, and shifter (bracket and all) and cleaned up the pivot bolt, and plastic bushings of all rust. Then I applied anti-seize and reinstalled it.
When I pull it back to 4WD High, the 4x4 light does not light up on the dash, and if I put it in Reverse while in 4WD the gears grind horribly until I get it back to park or Neutral. If I go from Neutral to Drive it does not grind and I can drive it as when in 2WD. going back to Reverse it grinds again.
When I pull it all the way back to 4WD Lo, it still grinds in Reverse, but will go forward in Drive. And no indicator on the dash that it is in 4Lo.
Is the problem in the transfer case, or is there an adjustment in the linkage that I can do. My first manual shift 4x4, so I'm out of my comfort zone and not sure what to look for next. All of your help is appreciated.
Thanks.
Rick Olson
