Default 4x4 problem

97 f150 4x4
Alright so from what i have heard and from what i have read up on. I believe i may have a vacuum leak that is not allowing me to engage 4hi or 4lo. i hear nothing when i turn on 4hi but when i turn on 4lo there is a clunk like as it would if it engaged but it doesn't actually engage.(the little 4x4 light does turn on when I put it in 4 wheel drive) anybody ever had this problem or knows how to fix it? sorry i do not know all there is to know about the 4 wheel drive system so bare with me. that is why im asking for your guys help!
thanks

I guess you have already tried it but you have to be in ''neutral'' to put 4/lo ?
