4x4 just stopped working! Please Help!!

I have a 98 f150 and the 4x4 stopped working on me the other day. I had been using the 4x4 that same day to get thru some muddy dirt roads and went to turn it on when driving down a different muddy country road and it did not work. Any one out there have any ideas of why this could of happened?

When washing the mud off of it today I noticed a loose piece of aluminum foil looking stuff under the truck bed as I was spraying the under carriage. It looks like it may be some kind of insulator or something.

If you couldnt tell I'm not a mechanic and any help is appreciated.

you have electronic 4wd? or the pull stick?if electronic check your fuses

I have electronic 4wd. I did check the two fuses I could find that are associated with the 4wd and they are both fine. I checked it the other night when it stoped working. Unfortunatley it's not that simple.

I ended up having to replace mine.

I don't wanna start a new thread since this sounds like it could be the same issue.

I just recently found out the hard way that mine is not working either. I have a 2002 with the electronic 4wd and when I turn the switch to 4LO, I can hear the transfer case engage it but the front hubs dont lock. Any ideas?

I'm thinking the hub vacuum solenoid is bad but I wanna see what others have to say about it before I go willy nilly replacing parts.

Check vacuum lines first then test the silonoids.
