Default 4x4 issue

WHen I put my truck in 4wheel and tap the gas I will get a bad clunk(electric switch not stick btw) and when I go to drive in 4wheel drive it will like pop out and then I'll have to stop and tap gas for it to engage, sometimes I can just here it clunking while driving but won't fully disengage, where should I start at? Transfer case? Also when I went to put back in 2wd it stayed in 4wd as I was driving and then made a clunk at 30 and popped back into 2 wheel drive.

Sometimes the IWE's will fill with water/corrosion and not allow them to slide their full distance. I removed mine and washed them out with penetrating oil then coated them with 'Honey-Goo' inside and outside. They work fine now.

Time for a new tcase. I'm in a similar place as you. Over time the electro magnetic clutch wears out.
