Default 4x4 help please??

First off, this is my 4th ford 4x4 with the "****" shifter so I am aware that the solenoids breaking is considered normal . That being said, I just bought a 97 150 with a blown motor. I replaced the motor and now have 2500 total in the truck, which is in excellent shape. Problem is 4x4 won't engage. When I start the truck up, I hear the clicking in the dash like I have turned the ****, but after that, I can turn it and get nothing... The solenoid on the T case appears to have been replaced recently, and I checked the switch itself with a ohm meter and seems to be fine. I also checked all the fuses and they are good as well. Is there a relay somewhere that may be causing the problem, since I only hear the clicking ( and shouldn't be ) when I start it up? Any help with this would be GREATLY appreciated Thanks in advance

Check the vacuum hose that locks your hubs in (if they are auto) it may be shifting into 4x4 but the actual hubs aren't engaging. It happened on my truck last year

My truck is doing the same thing I think but my t-case is engaging but my actuator isn't but my problem is the vacuum solenoid on the passenger firewall it's the closest one to the fender it should have a blue pinkish-red and white hose running to it with the blue and white plugging into the bottom try in plugging these and see if there is any vaccum to the hoses and if ao then the actuator is probably bad or stoped up if your t-case is engaging but DO NOT blow thesis piece out with air compressor I tried this and now I have to buy a new one because I blew some fairly important pieces out if it along with the dirt. I hope this helps.

its probly your shift fork in your front diff! its vacume actuated and if these trucks sit for a while the shift fork gets stuck. remove it and spray it with wd-40 while moving it back and forth till it loosens up. also check all the vacume lines from it(on the top of your front diff) to the actuators on the fire wall. and fyi...these truck dont have hubs!! manual or automatic!! they have unit barings and there nothing to do with your 4x4 engaging and disengaging! lol i cant believe that someone who drives a 97-03 f150 would think that!! lmao hahaha

Thanks for all the suggestions, I will check the vac lines and shift forks this weekend. I still dont understand why the switch is not responding as it should though.

And I am aware they dont have hubs
