Default 4R70W Rebuild

Hi,

I’m starting a rebuild of this transmission and the Shift Selector Lever appears to be fused to the shaft from rust. Any ideas on removing it? Worse case scenario suggestions?

I am soaking it with anti-seize penetrator, but not feeling good about it.

Are you talking about the PRNDL switch? You should be able to just remove it with the shaft, and deal with it on the bench. Take the tensioner for the rooster comb off with one 8mm headed bolt (goes through the valve body). Then take the 21mm nut off the end of the shaft.... this will require an open end wrench (no way to get a socket in there). Then you'll need to remove the roll pin in the case of the trans. I've found that a pair of side cutters, and using the case as a fulcrum works very well.

BTW, sometimes that nut wont come all the way off until you start pulling that shaft out of the case.

EDIT: A 13/16" open end may also work in lieu of the 21mm. I've had them both ways.

Actually supposed to be getting a 4R75W this weekend to build.

Perfect and makes sense. I was trying not to get ahead of myself. This is my first transmission rebuild. Wish me luck…I’m going to need it.😂

I strongly suggest getting yourself an ATSG manual for it.
