Default 4Lo problems

Im look to get a 98 F150 4x4 lariot with 5.4 the guy who owns it says be was drivin and the truck shifted to 4lo and wouldnt come out he took it to the dealer(wasnt far) they told him its the transfer case shift motorand unpluged it, he says it disengaged its been fine No 4wd of course but its been well me question for is does it sound like the problem ive searched and only realy answer I can find is it will go in 4x4 and not come out or is there a module thats tellin it to go in 4wd

I would make him take it to the dealer and have it diagnosed before you tossed any money at the purchase.

Talked to the guy hes gonna get the transfer case shift motor, put it in Im gettin a really good deal on and he dont want to dump to much cash before he gets rid of it. Hes says he was quoted $800 to replace it at the dealer
Is there any way to test it or narrow down the prob.
If you cant tell im new to the whole lifted/4x4 thing All my past trucks were Lowered/Bagged.

you can take it off of the truck and hook it up to a battery to test it
