4 x4 not working

4 x4 not working
i know this has been talked about lots on here and i have searched it already but here it is.....
i have a 03 kingranch supercrew and it will not engage 4x4 when i turn the switch. the lights will not go on in the dash, but if i put it in 4 x 4 low i have low range on the back wheels. i went under the truck while it is running and the diaphram valve is all the way out in 2wd. i shift to 4wd and the valve stays in the same position. shut the truck off and i can move the valve in and out freely. while i am in the truck when i shift to 4wd i hear a click then nothing happens about 5 seconds later i hear numerous clicks but then it stops and nothing happens. i checked the main 30 amp 4x4 fuse but it is good. i am not surre if this is related but my overhead consule compass is not working either, nothing lights up. i thought i read something about this being related on one of the threads
any help will be appriciated thanks, we should be getting snow soon so i need it fixed!!!
