Default 4 wheel drive problem

i know this problem has come up a lot and i have researched a lot but I want to hear what you guys have to say about my problem.

well my truck will not engage in to four wheel drive. i checked the fuze and that is alright and i also dont know exactly how to check if the vacuum lines are working but i can hear a click from the selenoid when i turn on 4hi and 4lo. so i do not know if that means if it is working or not. also in 2wd the front drive shaft does not turn but when i turn on 4hi/4lo it begins to turn when i go forward/backwards. i dont know if this matters or not but thats what i have found.

also, turning to 4hi i do not hear it ingage but when i turn to 4lo i have it engage. but when i drive it is not engaged.

I do not know all that much about the 4wd system so bare with me.
thanks in advance for the input

Check the vacuum to the front differential pod at the right axle tube. If you have a vacuum gun, you can put it on the pod and check if it engages. If it doesn't engage, either the pod or fork is bad.

If that works, then the solenoids behind the battery need checking. The lines can crack and become brittle and suck air, not giving a full amount to the front pod. If you say your front driveline is turning when you engage 4x4 then I would go to the solenoids and the front pod. You are in 4 high or 4 low. That is the only time the front shaft turns. That means the transfer case is engaging. Your problem is most likely at the front pod. Engaging 4 high, won't usually give you a sound like 4 low does. Hope that helps. Good luck.

Thank you for the feedback! I'll check that when I get a chance.

Alright so I finally had time to check some things out and I wanted to bring this post back to life.

I went under the truck while 4x4 was snagged and the vacuum lines had suction so that means the solenoids are working, right? So that must mean the vacuum lines are cracked or the front differential pod is bad, right?
Thanks
