4.6 question
So, I bought a 97 F150 with the 4.6. Truck ran great until my son ran it out of oil. I really like this truck so I went looking for an engine and found they arent really cheap so I found a guy that sold me a 4.6 out of a 2011 police crown vic. So what Im trying to figure out is was there an f150 that had the PI intake because the engine I got has the PI heads. Secondly how far off will it throw the tune on the stock computer having more air and compression to deal with? Will it compensate for the change? I have the crown vic intake but I would have to use all crown vic stuff including the throttle body and I would rather just find an f150 year that had it already so everything should be plug and play. Any suggestions?
The 4.6 safe year is 2001 for the PI intake. Your computer is set up to use coil packs, while the motor you got used coil on plug ignition. You'll be better off using your coil packs and plug wires from the F150 on the Vic motor.... waaaaaay less drama going that route.
Simple swap if the interceptor is a 2V. Other than that , your overthinking this one like a mad dog. Swap the engine and nothing else, - the factory original tune will run it just fine IF you swap only what you need.
Oh wow... was there a 3V Crown Vic, Brew? I didn't even think about that. Yeah, was thinking they were all 2V. Does the Crown Vic motor have sensors coming out of the valve covers all the way at the front of the motor (accessory side)?
No, no sensors in the valve covers. When I was looking up engines it showed that all police crown vics were 2 valve only. The guy I got it from said it has about 98 thousand on it and drove in there. They were going to put the engine in a mustang but decided not to, and after seeing the mustang I understand why. Planning on pulling the heads and oil pan just to give it a once over to be safe. Last time I did any engine swap/rebuild was in an olds 350 rocket engine, things have changed a bit since then. Lol
