Default 4.6 engine

Am looking at ford f150's with the 4.6. What do you 4.6 owners think of this engine? What kind of mileage do you guys have on these engines?

I think its a great motor in a 2wd that you don't plan on hauling heavy loads. You also have more options for modding the motor because of all the Mustang intakes that fit.

Good day!!

I love the 4.6L mod motor... I like the interchangeability (if that is a word) between the different 4.6L and 5.4L versions... I was gonna put a 5.4L - T45 combo in my 95 T-bird, but I couldn't get the intake fab'd quick enough... I had to sell it before going to Kuwait for a year... I'm doing a PI motor conversion on my 97 F-150 4X4, and I'm finding it easier than I originally thought... Only one small wiring harness mod and no drilling of the intake! Great reliability and easy to work on...

Well, have a great one!!

Cheers!!

Great engine, I felt the power loss after lifting and putting bigger tires, but just recently regeared and it feels great. Tons of power back!

If you're going to do any type of towing or hauling of heavy loads in the bed, pass. I have a 2000 and towing anything it's almost always in the power band regardless of whether I'm on the highway or in town. Putting around town, just fine. But the times I've had a trailer full of firewood or a boat, it's a little stressed. If you can find a 5.4, I'd go with that. Also, the best I've hit mpg-wise is about 14. Not that great. But then again, we don't buy trucks for the gas mileage.
