4.6 with 5 speed manual any good?
I'm considering buying a 2002 F150 Supercab XLT FX4 4WD short bed with the 4.6L motor and a 5 speed manual trans. Truck has 70,000 miles and looks new. Dealer would probably take $10,000 for it.
Never owned a Ford before...looking for a light duty pickup for hauling yard waste to landfill, hunting trips, hauling a dirt bike, daily driver, etc.
Any opinions on this motor & trans combination, expected fuel mileage, pros & cons would be very much appreciated.
Thank you...

I think 10 grand is a little too much. but yea these are good trucks, depending on how the other owner was with the truck. You can expect anywere between 10mpg and 18mpg.

They aren't rare, but as far as price goes on the truck they do take away from it. The manuals hold up pretty good too. My step dad has one and he pulls a trailer all day long with it. He's not the nicest on trucks either. lol. The clutch might be the only downfall if the previous owner slipped it while driving a lot. Other than that I would have to agree with the previous posts that it is a good combination. As far as the mileage goes, in town you might get better driving so long as you're not in a major city or there are a lot of stops. The highway is kind of the opposite. If you drive 55-60 everywhere on relatively flat terrain you should get better gas mileage, but running 65+ will take it down a bit. I've gotten 25-27 on the highway doing 55 everywhere, but I didn't get on it hard or get to speed really fast.

I used to go 80 everywhere but 10 mpg was a killer.

I have a 97 first edition short bed with 4.6 v8 4 speed w o.d. had it 2 1/2 years now well over 200000 miles on it I'd is broke at 210000 runs like it is new and will smoke the tires if I just goose the gas in first. Pulled my 20ft camper like was never there

4.6 with stick
they are common in v6 but super rare in 4.6 with bucket seats and power everything like my truck. Does great on gas if you keep your foot out of it and stay under 2000rpm
