Default 4.2L Charging Issues

Ok, so the daily 1999 v6 has just killed an alternator. Out of the blue. Been running great, come out of the bank, crank it up and BAM, battery light still on. Now every so often, when the gas pedal was floored(like the two times I've ever floored it), the battery light would come on in the higher rpm range, then go off again. Anyone else have these issues and/or possibly know what the frick caused it?

Cheers,
James

That's what I figured.

Be careful on your tensioner as well, mine was seized up and I had to replace it. Good luck.

Hm. I notice mine has no spring action left. Alternator is being rebuilt locally, might replace the tensioner whilst I wait.

Yea, got one for 60 bucks, don't know why the tensioner would go bad but it did. Mine was frozen so I had to take the alternator off before I could get my belt off. Nothing but a PITA. But all is well now.
