Default 4.2 V6 reliability

How reliable was your 4.2 engine? Did your truck have any problems?

Very reliable. Mine is an 02 with 133,000 miles. Only thing I had to do was replace the upper plenum gasket and isolator boltS. Not too bad to do over all. Now I am gettin 18-19 mpg city and 21-23 mpg hyw.

An old work truck I had was an '02 with the 4.2 in it. Great little truck, it had 305,148 on it when I turned it in for the equipment auction.

The egr ports are under the intake. Have to take it off. I wish I would of got a pic. Srry. U don't replace em just take a tooth pick or something like tht to clean em out. After I did that I vaccumed it too. I was getting bout 10 mpg highway. And even worse city. Now since all cleaned and bolts replaced and gasket. I am getting close to 22-25 hiwy and 17-19 city. Ill do a quick search for egr ports and see if I can find a pic.
