I have a 2002 f150 4.2 5 speed and am wanting to know what I stand to gain from a tuner. Also who makes tuners for my truck and which offers the best bang for the buck.

 

You stand to gain 10-15 hp. Since it's a 5 speed you won't have the extra "feel" the autos do with shift firmness. SCT x3 from VMP, PHP, or Troyer.

 

Either a Edge, or SCT Xcal 3 will work.

You will gain some horsepower, can get it tuned for a specific octane of gas usually, and most places like VMP have a MPG tune as well if you want something like that. Gain 1 to 2 mpg but won't be as powerful as a performance tune. Also with a tuner, you can read and clear your own CEL codes.

I have a used Xcal 3 for sale in the classifieds area. :-)

EDIT: Just looked up the Edge on their website and they only show the 4.6 and 5.4 engine for 2002 so I was wrong there, good catch Otto!

lol Shows how much I know. I've only used the SCT's before. The Edge and Gryphon only works on the V8's? Shows what happens when I assume....hehe

 

On my 02.. i have a Sniper tuner... But i do not recommend them.. because the company has screwed me... They have not fixed it... its been over a year.. 3 months ago they told me new programming will be availible at the end of this month....

DO NOT BUY SNIPER PROGRAMMING....
