2004 transfer case in 2003?

2004 transfer case in 2003?
Does anyone know if a 2004 transfer case will work for a 2003 4x4? I am pretty sure the shift fork is broken, and I have access to a 2004 transfer case. It's been taking a while to engage, and then will disengage at random while driving.
