Default 2004 Heritage ABS conundrum

Hello all.

This is my first post and I have a 2004 V6 Herritage, AKA 2003, with an ABS issue. When I first start the truck the ABS light is off, however within 1 mile it always comes on. I've tested it's functionality and before the light comes on the ABS does function. I've disconnected and cleaned the electrical connectors with no improvement. I'm told by a mechanic friend that it could be a rusty ground connection and this truck has lived its life in New England so it definitely has its fair share of rust. I've done a number fo searches however can't figure out where the ABS ground connection is located. If someone could point out just where it is that would be much appreciated! Thank you.

Did.....you......read......the.....code.......in.. ......the.......pcm.....?..

Probably a bad wheel sensor.... That is the most common cause.

They are cheap or expensive depending on where you buy it from. Anywhere from $8 - $150. For the exact same thing......I saved the ones out of my old wheel bearings several yrs ago and already used one.

you need to pull the code out of the abs module.

+1
A good visual inspection of the 4 speed sensor wires, and a code test is first
Agree with checking all the grounds
Start with the grounds in both kick panels
Not sure right off hand where that ABS gets its ground from
An EVTM is your friend for that

The mechanic did say the code was for a rusty ground connection so that's what I'm pursuing. I do not have the code number. If it is a wheel sensor as suggested could the ABS still function as it did when I tested it before the light came back on? I'll see if one of the parts stores can pull the ABS code.

You need a scanner that reads the PCM codes to see the ABS codes.... Your standard OBD2 won't do it..... A decent bluetooth adapter can do it using forscan

I would be very surprised if there was a code for " a rusty ground connection". Even more surprised if the ABS functioned without power

So I got 3 codes at Advance Auto

B1676 - low voltage within the ABS system
C1226 - right rear wheel sensor circuit not working properly
C1185 - possibly the module

I'll start with replacing the rear speed sensor as there's only 1 and see what happens.

Do the pinpoint tests for those 3 codes, so you don't just throw parts at it
