Default 2003 shifting problem

New on forum and have a problem that I cannot get solved.
I have a 2003 F150 4wd automatic transmission with 4.6 engine. When the outside temp is below 38-40 degrees the transmission will not shift into the fourth gear (@ 45 mph). I can drive for a mile stop and then start driving and it will shift fine the rest of the day. Above 40 degrees the transmission shifts fine with no problems. Any suggestions?

Also there is no errors listed computer readout.

your transmission fluid isnt warmed up. it doesnt go into to overdrive because the fluid isnt at ideal temp. after you drive around a bit and the fluid warms up, then it will go into OD. happens in colder times of year.

and welcome to the forum. a lot of guys on here know these things front to back. great info.

Thank you for your reply. Is there anything I can do to correct this? This shifting problem started two years ago and never occurred from 2003 to 2014. ( I bought the truck new)

Possibly need new fluid and a filter change also? If nothing else if it hasn't been done in a long while it could use it.

Well there goes the only input I could think of. I just bought a truck with 210k miles, so I am slowly combing through everything and fluid changes granted the previous owner might have done them at the right intervals I am redoing them all in the next 3 month span, and documenting so I know when they were last done and can keep on top of it!

Good luck fixing your truck glad you've had it since new at least you know this is the only issue she has!
