Default 2003 electrical gremlin

My 2003 F150 is having some electrical issues. Battery Saver Relay was doing the usual clicking after the entire power in the truck was dead. Assumed dead battery so took it in and got a new one.

Put the new battery in the truck and started right up. Son drove to his friends house and dead again. No lights, no click, no anything. Jumped it and drove it home. I went out 10 minutes later and it started again.

This evening he went to go out after no trouble for a day and it was dead again. Went out to confirm and sure enough, no power. Went to the garage to get the tools, open the door and the dome light is back on and the truck fires right up!

What is going on??!! Any clue?

Your post is confusing. You use "dead" to describe two different things.

If it was dead enough that the dome light wouldn't come on, it wouldn't magically charge itself again.

Sounds like a bad ground or power cable , but then again..jumping wouldn't resolve it.

Sorry for the confusion. Each time the truck was dead, there was no power to any electrical system. At this point I assume the original battery may have been fine.

So.... does the truck randomly work or do you need to jump it to get it to restart. The anwser to that question will decide where you go for diag.

Wow, just answered almost the same question. As it has to do with my truck anyway. Is your ignition switch sloppy in the column? Can you get the key out without the column lock switch locking the column? If you do happen to have problems similar, make sure the column is locked before you take the key out. Solved my problems.
