Default 2002 Supercrew..how does the brake light switch work?

I had a previous post about " I couldn't get the shifter out of park". I installed a new brake switch and I think I fixed that problem. Now at times the cruise won't set. I can pull up on the pedal and release it and then the cruise works. I really don't see any way to adjust it plus I have no idea how it works. It is very touchy. You can just touch the pedal and the cruise shuts off. There is no push button. It's a sealed unit. Not really sure what to do about this. Any help?

Don't forget that on the master cylinder there is also a cruise control release switch. It is controlled from the brake light switch when it is pressed. It isn't a very expensive part, (under-20 at RockAuto), and other than the sealed brake light switch assy (about 10) I don't recall any other problem. Check the one on the M/cyl and also make sure your brake fluid is full.

Did you truck have the recall for the cruise control already performed? If you don't know, you can go the TSB section, find your recall and put in your serial number to find out. Or you can goggle cruise control recalls for Ford and go from there. Good luck.

It sounds like the master cylinder has been replaced at one point in time an the pushrod is not adjust correctly. I had the same issue when i replace my master cylinder and the push rod depth was different. The cruise control switch on the master is looking for pressure.

I'm pretty sure it has the same master cyl. I've owned the truck since it had 40k miles. All I did was change the brake light switch and the cruise won't turn on at times. I'm pretty sure that it is not turning on with the on button because after you pull the pedal up, hit the on button and set cruise, it will work normally until you turn the truck off or switch the cruise off on the steering wheel. Maybe this new switch is a little more sensitive. Should I remove the master cyl and adjust the rod shorter or longer? Or may be the pushrod from the booster to the pedal? Is it adjustable? I may have turned it a time or two while installing the new switch.
