Default 2002 Supercrew 4wd issue

I'm pretty sure the last time I used my 4wd it didn't engage. 4x4 lit up on the instrument cluster but it didn't feel like it was working. Later I turn it on and felt no resistance in the steering on dry pavement. I'm a auto tech so dont be afraid to get technical. Or maybe someone can send me a link to some troubshooting. Thanks. also It does go into low range.

My 97 had this issue once... Had to rebuild the front axle. There is a fork that was vacuum actuated and the fork was corroded up bad on the pivot pin that connected to the external vacuum solenoid. I believe it was behind a small plastic cover on one side of the axle gear housing. See if it moves when you engage 4x4

Update.....The transmission does NOT go into low range in 4wd low on switch. And if it has a light on the instrument cluster that says 4x4 low, its not coming on either.

Youre gonna get some interesting responses since youre claiming to be an auto tech and your tranny doesnt go into low range......Im sure you meant transfer case right?
