2002 ford f150 5.4 HIGH RPMS, like the choke is stuck or the throttle
2002 with 240000 miles on it and I swear I thought the over drive was going out of it and all I have today is first and second gear. Is it any coincidence that in neutral and park now it revs about 2000 rpms... It has new plugs coils packs heater core and heater hoses

Do you have a check engine light on?

Is anything holding open the butterfly of the throttle body, maybe a sticking throttle cable or something? If not, a possible TPS sensor problem. Any codes?

The weird thing is today the truck shifted out just fine, I did a throttle reset on it. Also that took care of the high rpms 2000 of them... Drove the truck for a few hours came back home. Then the problems came back with it. So invested in sea foam, throttle body and air intake cleaners and mass air flow cleaner. Also while reassembling everything discovered I need a new throttle position sensor.... Also learned my truck got a great comment from the lady down the road,, who says it was too loud and she couldn't get her grand child too sleep says can't you work on it at the park.... I'm thinking wait till tomorrow morning lady lolol lol sorry lady.

Extremely dirty butterfly... Also discovered the spring in the tps was slowly releasing I believe that's what had my throttle stuck at 2000 rpms... Ant suggestions to getting the slack out of the gas Petal or do you think after 240000 miles it's probably just stretched..? Looking forward to your opinions

Change the TPS and clean the throttle body and see how it goes. Cable is probably stretched a little. A bad TPS can cause weird shifting sometimes.

Don't use Seafoam, unless you want more problems. The TPS is fine, otherwise you would have a CEL. The TPS ALWAYS forwards a CEL when acting up. Throttle cable is fine like that, but you'll get better throttle response with new. Clean the throttle body and the MAF, both by hand. Meaning don't hose down the MAF and call it good. Make absolutely sure you disconnect the battery before doing so. The TB shouldn't be dirty unless your using an oiled element. Check for vac leaks thoroughly as well.
Btw, if you have already purchased the Seafoam, use it to assist in cleaning the TB. It's good if used in this manner.
