Default 2002 f150 pcm

OK guy's i need your opinion .. ive confirmed that i have a bad pcm by opening it up and seeing the burnt out diode. This was caused by a bad cyl #5 COP..ive chanceg the cop, the plug both with motorcraft. ( Now my question is should i have my current pcm repaired @ $300 + shipping and i wont need to go to the dealer for it to get programed ? or buy a remanufactured one from the local autoparts for $250 and have the dealer program it for $110 ??? I must say i dont have alot of trust in the service dept at a dealer.. they wanted to charge me $430 to look and fix the short/open ground! or replace the pcm @ $700 yes thats $1130 w/o tax..i said nope ill pick it up and find it myself ,like i did and already saved $430 ?
Thank you for your input !!

Neither... You don't have to get PCM reprogrammed (some may require, not all).

You are in a tough spot and a question is raised in my mind.

1. What exactly does the dealer do to reprogram the computer? Years back, the PCM's were ordered by using the calibration code, after that the engine went thru its learning strategy and all was done. Has that changed?

I do all my own work and am by no means a guru but I am very skeptical as to all the hype that is out there to get into our wallets.

Hope you all the best and hopefully the right answer will be posted.
