I remove mine about every 50k/75k miles and clean even if it doesn't need it.
Runs much better.
Also, I would replace the fuel pump especially if it's the OEM pump. Why wait for it to fail when you don't need it to fail. The pump is gold if it makes it to 150k miles - can't last forever.
thanks will do.
Kicking myself. I replaced my gas tank 2 years ago but not the fuel pump. The tank was leaking gas.
I'll do the throttle body first.
No need to replace the egr valve?
ive seen a few videos of the bolts holding the egr valve in place and it looks like a right whoore to take off.
Update. Got the throttle body off. Had to drain some fluid from the coolant as I sprayed myself when I took off a line yesterday. When I got it off the pcv valve hose at the back of the throttle body elbow has a penny sized hole in it.
Cleaned the small ports that go to the egr best I could.
Would be nice to have some kind of bore brush to clean it out better tho. But yes it was clogged up with debris.
Get some parts this week and hopefully see what I've done works.
gonna replace both PCV valve hoses on each side of the engine. Couple vacuum lines too as they dont look in great condition
Snapped a bolt off in the throttle body that holds the egr valve in place. See if I can get a buddy to weld a nut onto it to get it out. Might have to tap and die the threads too.
How about the little EGR ports? Are they clogged up?
Those come out under the throttle plate, so you remove the throttle plate from the elbow to clean them out
Your issue was most likely the hole in the pcv valve...
If it truly had a hole in the hose prior to you tearing it apart.
That being said, you didnt need to take off the entire intake elbow,
But chances are, of you didnt, you wouldnt have found the hole in the pcv hose.
