Default 2001 known issues

Hello all,
Considering a move to 2001 era extended cab 4x4. Found a couple locally, Sparta, NJ, with under (barely) 100k for around $10k.

Did a search on the site for "known issues" and came up dry. Is there a sticky or thread that I haven't found?

I'm looking for what things I need to be concerned about when I shop for one of these beasts.

Thanks,
Jeff, Sparta, NJ

Bought one (2001 F150 4X4) with around 50,000 mi. on it for my son a few years ago. It's been a very good truck with no issues to speak of. However just recently it's developed an issue with the brakes. It's not unique to this particular truck as I've read quite a few posts of others having the same problem. Brake Fade, it's a condition that causes the brake pedal to "fade" or go down towards the floor after stopping and holding the truck at a stop. Other than that though, it's been a very good truck ... no problem with the 4X4 at all....

What engine is in the truck, was wondering about the spark plug issue?
You might want to search for the plug breakage during removal.

Definately check the rocker panels for rust.!! Don't just look at them, smack them, poke them, jab them with something. If you see bubbles in the paint, they are rusted through from the inside.

It is a very common problem with that year northern, rustbelt trucks.

Not a deal breaker if you are willing to do the work. But adjust the price accordingly.
