Default 2001 f150 air conditioning

I can't figure what's wrong with my ac. It holds a charge and the pipes work. But when I switch it from heat to cool it doesn't switch over. I figure it's not switching over because it isn't just outside air blowing in when switched to cool. It's still the heater blowing real hot. And if that's it I'm not sure how to get under the dash to find that switching over to see if it's stuck. Any one got any ideas?

Bad blend door or bad blend door auctator. Go to you tube and search blend door repairs for your model truck and you will find videos on how to remove glove box door and cut into the plenum to check blend door function.

I have similar but different problem 2003 F-150. My AC works fine on MAX but when I switch to regular AC I can hear the fan blowing but no air will come out of the dash. Is this a blend door or actuator issue too? Can this be fixed with out pulling the dash?
Thanks,

It's most likely the blend door actuator. Just replaced one on a Taurus doing the same thing.

Yep. Remove the dash. I cut my plenum and repaired with that silver ac tape and painted black. No problems.

Thanks,
I would think your problem is the fresh air door is probably stuck in the closed position. If I'm not mistaken you can remove the oval that holds the air bag on top of you dash on passenger side to access the fresh air door. When you move you dial from max the door should open. Or if you have a recirculate button you may have to turn it off the open fresh air vent.

Default Question

A couple of questions concerning the fresh air vent. If I turn control to vent will that tell me if that is the problem? How difficult is it to go thru the air bag location? Also jstockert, you also mentioned remove the dash, cut the plenum and no problem. I would think removing the dash would be a problem for me.

Usually on max ac the air recirculates and any other setting uses vent air.
As the air bag removal is very easy and the vent will be toward the body of the truck kinda below the a pillar.
The dash would not to be removed to take glove box off and cut plenum. You tube has videos to show where to cut and how to fix after you cut to find blend door.
