Hello I am trying to decide between the 2001 F150 super cab and 2001 F150 super crew cab.

Both cost about the same and have the about 150-160K mile. Both have a 4.6 engine.

If they both have the same reliability I will go with the super crew cab.

However I think 2001 was the first year of the super crew cab so if they have reliability problems, I will go with the super cab/ extended cab.

Thoughts? Opinions?

 

As far as I know they're the same except for the size of the cab and bed. Super Crew has more room.

 

Screw will have a shorter bed. I prefer the looks of the scab over the screw. I'd take which ever one seems to be in better shape if you don't "need" the extra cab space. Also take into account the axle ratio as they may be different. I'd prefer 3.73's

 

While the Supercrew was "new" for 2001, it is based on the 4 yr old (at the time) F150 and Expedition, so it is no more or less reliable than those models.

So it comes down to Supercrew, more interior room, smaller bed, Supercab, a little less interior room, little bigger bed (unless it is a long bed, the a lot longer).

There are other differences, but those are the biggest ones off hand.

 

For me personally... I have never liked the look of super crews as much as extended cabs in this generation. Not to mention, the short box is a big no-no for me because I do a lot of truck camping and I have to have at least a 6 foot box to make it work.

But to each their own. A lot of guys like to have the extra back seat room not necessarily for passengers but just for stuff they want to keep safe and dry.

 

If I could go back and re buy my truck I would have got a super crew. Same wheel base as the scab and with the scab the box is roughly the same size with the tool box. Which I wouldnt need if I had a screw

 

I'd go with the supercrew if your going to have any body over the age of 5 riding in your back seat. There is no room for people sitting in the back of an extended cab from 97-03.
