Cable end deterioration. The rubber piece that locks onto the latch deteriorates over time. It's usually the top latch. This is mine I replaced on the top latch.

Replace the ends. Can get them online, and they should come with instructions. They come in metal, so they should never need replacing afterwards.

Same problem here with my 2001. How do you open the door for the fix?

Take the panels off and grab a holt of the cable that isn't opening and pull while opening.

I did this on my 1999, it started with the passenger side, upper latch as noted. I replaced all 4 cable ends. Took about 5 hours; 3 1/2 on the first one to get good at it, then another 1 1/2 to do the other door.

He has the door open and parts should arrive today, is there a good way to remove the old keeper on the cable. it looks to pressed on the cable. do you cut it off or just pull on it
