Default 2001 5.4

So my brother is looking at a 2001 f150 4x4 screw cab with the 5.4 and less than 130k on it looks like a good truck and I'd go with him to look at it but I'm 2000+ miles away right now what year was it that the 5.4 blew spark plugs out? Anything he should look for?

It was the 01-03.. I'm pretty sure. And tell him to ask the owner if the spark plugs were replaced by the dealer ship or by the owner him self.. cause I too have a 01 f150 screw cab and the plugs have been replaced by the dealer.. and they know these trucks have that problem so they might put them in using something or what not. and I have never had problems with it.

I have a late 00, titled as an '01 with 213,000 on it, and it has never spit a plug! Still runs as good as new!

97 to 2004 (heritage) have blown plugs. In this style it's something to be aware of. The dealer would be the last place I'd have do my plugs as they torque to spec which isn't high enough.

At 130k you're getting close to or are at the life of the front suspension. Check it out. If things like ball joints and tie rods have zerks, they've been replaced.

Rust under the rockers, bed and inside bottom of the doors.

None of those would prevent a purchase but the price should reflect condition.

Never had a bit of problem with my 01 5.4 XLT Flairside Standard Cab. Just over 107K.
