Angry $2000 Tune-up?

My 5.4Liter engine has 120,000 miles on it and is begining to miss rather badly some times. I have been told that it may cost up to $2000 to get this fixed. Is this something I can do myself and save some money?

For $2000 you could do the following if you did it yourself

Spark plugs
Coils (you probably have a bad one)
O2 sensors
Oil change
Fuel Filter
Trans fluid change
Coolant flush
Tie rod ends
Ball joints
Brake rotors and pads
Wheel bearings
Shocks

And probably still have money left over, and will have done a lot more than that shop would have done.

That's a lot man. U can probably do it for 1000 or so if u find the specials for oils and all that. It's simple to do a tune up on it if u need help.

WTF $2000.....really????

Your truck has a miss, most likely caused by one or more bad coils. This is a common problem with the f150. Rent a diagnostic tool from the auto parts store (or you can buy one for $50) and see if the truck pulls any codes. That will point you in the right direction. I guarantee you if the truck is missing, it is most likely the coils or the plugs. Very common with the 4.6/5.4L ford engines.

Ford dealer tuneup in my area is $ 250.00.
I don't think it is a tuneup, it must be blown out plugs, cops, manifold, head gasket, whatever.
Either way, sounds like a rip off to me.

I think you should take it to a auto part store have them put it on a scanner. Most of them do it for free. I would try to get a idea on whats wrong. Then look into how hard the job will be. There's alot of good how to on youtube. And you can always get info here.
