Default 2000 4.6 to 1997 5.4 swap

Hi guys i got a 2000 4.6 that makes a hellish amount of noise when cold and low oil pressure when warm. I found a 1997 5.4 for a good price. I understand the 97 5.4 was not PI, what do i need to do to make it pi? I have a 2000 and thought that was pi and read that the heads interchage. Should i use my 2000 heads if they are pi? if so i need to find a pi intake manifold for the 5.4?

Ill be using the 4.6 harness and computer so I understand all i gotta do is extend a couple wires for the oil pressure and IAC ? hang the variable intake valve somewhere since the 5.4 doesnt use it and eventually get a tune to eliminate that and account for extra cubes?

Ive done alot of reading but wanna be sure im not missing anything before diving into this one

Thanks and happy new year!

i've heard that 4.6's weren't "PI" until 03 i believe so that wouldnt work but i think 5.4's started in like..2001? not sure.

and the torque converter i found on summit was 420$ !! it sounds like a good unit but i didint really wanna spend that much on that. Anyone know a decent plan for a torque converter that costs less than that an will put up with off roading and some plowing. thanks

Go find a 99-03 (04 Heritage) 5.4 and use that.

99 was the first year of Pi heads in the 5.4 F-150. 2001 was the first year of Pi heads in the 4.6 F-150.

To change a non Pi head engine to a Pi you need the Pi heads and intake manifold. More info on swapping is in the notes in my sig.

I finished the swap with the 97. I posted my dyno numbers and with drivetrain losses taken into account I'm quite happy with the numbers. If I feel more need for speed I'll do a HCI swap.
