I need to replace the flywheel on my 98 F150. Its an automatic and I was wondering if anyone had a good set of instructions to help me out. Thanks!

 

Assuming the flywheel installs the same with the new generation engines as it did with all other ford engines, it goes on only one way. Meaning two holes are spaced different than the rest. Set in place, keep rotating untill all 6 holes are in alignment. Snug up bolts lightly, then torque down using the opposite bolt method. Do not tighten one bolt at a time in a circle, go opposite bolts. Flywheel install is the gravy part of the job and cannot really be messed up. If you have never installed an auto trans be very careful that the torque converter is engaged fully in the trans. Place a straight edge across the bell housing of the trans and measure the distance to the base of the torque converter (TC) studs. This distance has to be greater than the amount the flywheel extends from the engine. If torque converter has a drain plug, it has to be rotated to align with same hole in flywheel for installation. Place trans up to engine using opposite bolt method again snug up by hand (no Power tools). I prefer to start at a bolt next to an alignment stud, after the trans is snugged up, check and see if TC studs are loose and wobble in the flywheel. This verifies that the torque converter was inserted fully into the front pump and no damage will be done. Hope this helps, PM me if further description is needed.
