1998 computer not ready when inspected
1998 comp not ready when hooked up to obtain registration sticker. Cannot get sticker, mechanic told me to drive it for 100 miles to reset comp. I have driven well over 100 miles since i last disconnected the battery. Any sugestions?
I had forgotten that my inspection and emissions were due, and changed the tune on my programmer. It threw a tattletale code whenever it was hooked up to the machine.
My mechanic could tell it was close to resetting because there were 5 out of 6 green lights on his reader (or something like that). He told me it would take about 20 miles, left his reader hooked up, and told me to start driving at a steady 50 mph and come back when the last light turned green.
All you can do is drive and try again in a few days.

What you're referring to as a tattletale code is a P1000. This means the computer has not completed a drive cycle. The computer needs to be driven to see the sensors and systems and ensure they're operating properly. In NC you can have 2 systems not complete on that model year. That will usually be the catalyst and O2 sensors. This is typically the same in most states. All highway driving won't necessarily clear those systems for you. Try a mix of highway driving, some wide open throttle, and some suburban driving like 25-35mph. I had all but 2 clear on my f150 in about 20 minutes of driving. I had a 14 mile route when I worked in Jersey that would clear the P1000.
